    Future prospects

    This chapter discusses the future prospects for “pandemic preparedness” in terms of digital tooling, stakeholders and the further possibilities.

    Activity 3.1 and 3.2 involved engaging end-user organisations to the project, carrying out market research, interviewing decision-making organizations and presenting a demo of the dashboard.

    Approach

    In the introduction, we mentioned the existing COVID-19 dashboards both in the Netherlands and South Africa. We approached all the owners and partners to participate in the stakeholder engagement.

    The stakeholders

    Interviews were held with South African and Dutch stakeholders between December 2021 and March 2022.

    The main outcomes from the interviews for use in a dashboard have been listed below:

    Key questions and future perspectives beyond COVID-19

    A key question from Researchers was “how do we build a dashboard which is more responsive to the situation as it changes?” Machine-learning aspects would be useful.

    Introduction

    This project was created to develop and implement a tool to monitor the early circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the population by analysing critical locations in the urban water cycle, as a proxy for the prevalence of the COVID-19 illness.

    Background

    When the subsidy was approved in 2020, little was known about the COVID-19 virus. During the course of 2021 and throughout the project timeline, more information became available regarding the virus.
